Ferrari is readying the next generation of supercars – and we’ve already reported how it’s about to start turbocharging the majority of its sports cars. But there’s another corner of Maranello’s R&D skunkworks which is developing V6 power for future sports cars. We do not have official confirmation yet, but intelligence indicates that the new twin-turbo V6 is a 2.9-litre unit, designed to be long-term street-legal and affordable in big growth markets such as China.
With the new Audi RS6 Avant revealed, Audi has delivered the first video of the new V8 RS6 in action ahead of a public debut. In fact, for many with deep pockets and petrol running through their veins, the RS6 Avant is the ultimate ‘Q’ car; take of the RS badges and no one would know the quietly spoken Audi estate was carrying a very big stick indeed for when it was needed. Mind you, the RS6 Avant only speaks quietly when you’re gentle – give your right foot free reign and it can bellow like a supercar – and even with a V8 instead of a V10, the 2013 Audi RS6 Avant can pull the same trick.

Toyota has (succinctly) announced that it will unveil a new battery-electric concept car at the Detroit motor show in January 2009. And that’s it – alongside a solitary teaser photo that’s all we’re getting out of the Japanese automotive giant for now. But a source inside Toyota GB confirmed to CAR that this concept is not the new Prius, and that the production version of the infamous petrol-electric hybrid will debut alongside this EV concept.
